Commitment ceremonies mean many different things to
different people.
A
commitment ceremony is for couples who have made a
commitment to each other and wish to publicly declare their
devotion before family and friends, without taking the step
into a legal marriage….for whatever reason.
A
commitment ceremony can look just like a wedding, complete
with church, wedding gown, and hundreds of guests -- but no
marriage license. Or, a commitment ceremony can be the most
alternative event imaginable: a ritual to bless your
relationship, or just a big party to celebrate your love.
A
commitment ceremony can be a huge bash with all your friends
and relatives in attendance, an intimate exchange between
you and your partner, or a family rite of passage to
strengthen the bonds between parents and children in a new
unmarried stepfamily.
You can
call it a commitment ceremony, a wedding, a ceremony of
union, or anything else you like!
Jan
Littlejohn ensures that the day is remarkable, and that it
captures the spirit of the occasion.
What does the ceremony contain?
As with Marriage Ceremonies
there are a number of choices to make in how your ceremony
is arranged.
Commitment Ceremonies may contain any or all of the
following:
§ Introduction and welcome
§ Acknowledgement of any
children of the union
§ Readings
§ Poetry
§ Rededication of ring(s)
§ Giving of ring(s) or gift(s)
§ Messages from special guests
(similar to a marriage: such as the best man, bridesmaids,
or bride’s father, etc.)
§ Special music
§ Signing of commemorative
certificate and closing words
Same Sex Couples
Jan Littlejohn is pleased to of course
offer exactly the same services to same sex couples who wish
to declare their union publicly before family and friends.
